Development bulletin – Alpha versions coming soon – part 1
The past weeks are all about wrapping development on the Alpha versions of our games. We haven’t quite crossed the Alpha finish line with development yet, but we’re so close we can taste it.
We couldn’t resist snapping a few photos and telling you about the new features that will hit the Alpha versions of our games. Let’s start from MouseCraft.
Crazy cat scientist
You liked the cat very much, so we improved his looks and made him the main character of the game.
One might say he’s crazy or even mad, but he’s just genuinely obsessed with finishing his latest invention- a mysterious machine powered by mice.
He’s also the narrator and will be voiced by Ed Mace, a full time voice actor with over 27 years of experience in the field of video games, animation and trailers. You can check his voice somewhere here.
We still haven’t decided what’s his name, so if you have any ideas, please don’t hesitate and leave a comment.
4 new brick types, obstacles, and some cool brick destroying effects
You wanted the game to be more complex and challenging, so we came up with the idea of different kinds of bricks and additional obstacles.
The Alpha version will include most of them:
- Jelly Bricks
Their soft consistency prevents mice from dying as they fall from more than 3 units.
- Crumbling Bricks
Their durability is limited- they crumble every time a mouse steps on them. Eventually, they fall apart.
- Exploding Bricks
They arm themselves when touched by a mouse, and detonate after 3 seconds. The explosion kills and destroys everything within 1-unit range.
- Voltage Bricks
Really deadly- they instantly kill a mouse at touch with a high-voltage electric charge.
- Water Obstacles
Mice can move under water, but just for a short amount of time. After a brief moment they’ll run out of oxygen and die.
- Acid Obstacles
They instantly kill a mouse, and melt bricks over time.
New maps, second game mode, and hopefully- a level editor!
The Alpha version will of course include new levels, but more importantly it will introduce an alternate game mode called Arcade.
It’s a game mode where players must make time-pressured decisions and handle random Tetromino bricks in order to create a safe path for the mice.
We are also working on the level editor- we want to include it in the Alpha version, so you can create your own maps and get truly involved in the process of developing MouseCraft.
Improving the look of mice
According to the Pre-Alpha survey results, you generally liked the visuals of the game, but you didn’t fancy the look of mice. Also, you suggested they could move a little bit faster.
To achieve that, we needed to remake all the animations, which led to the creation of a new 3d model and ultimately- a different texture.
That’s how we ended up with a entirely fresh look of our lovable rodents. It took some effort, but we all think it was worth it.
Alpha release date
We’re not quite there yet, so we don’t want to promise anything. Although, it looks like we’re gonna make it before the end of April.
The Alpha version will be available for free download through our Beta Program, just like the Pre-Alpha version.
